Interior Design Consultation by Calgary Interior Designer

The consultation is where our clients are first acquainted with the SCID team, and we look forward to them as much as you! We understand that you have likely been thinking about your space for some time before contacting our team and it’s important to us that you have an opportunity to communicate all your ideas and questions. We’ll share some points that ensure that your consultation is a personable and purposeful discussion that tells the story of your space and how you would like to see it going forward!

A typical consultation is 1 – 2 hours long and a lot of information is unpacked within the appointment. We understand it’s both exciting and overwhelming to think about where to start when introducing big changes to your space. With that in mind, we’ll provide you with a quick questionnaire asking basic questions about your current space and style preferences. This feedback provides us with a general overview of what you hope to achieve prior to the appointment, wherein we have a detailed discussion about integrating your vision into a newly designed space.

FUNCTION

An old adage about design is that form follows function. For your space to feel well‐designed, it should facilitate the way you want to use it. Let us know if this is where want to unwind or focus - or perhaps the room is going to wear many hats. We want to provide a design concept that is appropriate for your lifestyle, so information like this gives our team insight into informed design decisions that will result in a highly personalized space. Knowing what your priorities are when you’re spending time in that part of the home helps us to work towards a design solution that accommodates everyone using the space.

STYLE

We never assume that you want to change everything about your space. No one knows the rhythm in your home better than you, so while can offer experience-based advice, we would love to know if you have your heart set on a solution as well. If you are unsure about what would work better – not to worry - we come prepared for design challenges, and while we may come to a quick solution for some obstacles, others take time and we’ll explore those later in the studio! Our objective and top priority is to design a plan that fits within the parameters of your lifestyle, design preferences, and budget.

We believe that achieving a sense of flow between the way you function and how you feel in your new space is integral to truly enjoying it. To ensure our design reaches its full potential, we need an understanding of how you want the space to feel. Perhaps you would like it to feel more open or casual, or you may be looking to implement a greater sense of order and organization – no matter the case, we keep your vision in mind when selecting everything from layout to finishes, furniture to décor for a tailor-made result.

ALLERGIES

If there are any allergies or respiratory conditions in your household, please let us know. This will ensure that we select hypoallergenic finishes, fabrics, and cushion inserts, so everyone can enjoy the space!

BUDGET

Although this is the last item on the list, it is always a high-priority topic of discussion. While we are motivated to work with you in creating the space you dream of, but (and we also don’t like that there is a “but”) the budget is an important factor in determining how much of your space we can design or renovate - and to what extent. If the vision is bigger than the budget, we are always open to discussing what can be adjusted within your project to achieve a newly designed space that agrees with your pocket book and feels tailor made! We would like to know if you have a number in mind that you are hoping to work with (it is helpful if you have a starting point for discussion), but we also appreciate that you may not yet know what the items on your list cost, and are instead looking for our insight and advice.

OUR GOAL

The goal of the consultation is to become acquainted with you and the way you see yourself in your space, so a candid conversation about both budget and design ensures we can navigate our next steps in a way that works well for you. A well rounded design facilitates the way you function, while reflecting your style. We look forward to being a part of that and toasting to a space you can truly indulge in and get the most out of!

At Stephanie Charest Interior Design we love to help you create a beautiful home so you can live a beautiful life.
