Our Year In Review - 2022

A brand new year is always cause for reflection. We review the past year in business, our wins and losses, discuss what we did well and what we could improve on. Our goal is always to serve our clients better, improve their experience with us and be better than we were before.

I was going to post about both the good and the not so good of 2022 but I saw a post about listing things you were grateful for from the past year and that resonated with me far more for our Year in Review.

One of the things I know all of us at Team SCID are grateful for is the most obvious one… our Clients! You can think it’s cheesy and typical, but we truly have the best clients. The Client/Designer relationship is an important one… without a good connection, trust and understanding, doing a project together would be full of challenges. From the first phone call, we make sure that we “fit”. We’re going to be spending a lot of time together and our relationship will be a long one… did I mention we befriend our clients for life?

Case in point… we have clients that I started with EIGHT years ago when it was just me. We’ve transformed their homes space by space and we are continually in each others lives. One of our newer, current clients bought the house right next door to my mom and dad! We saw each other at the neighbourhood Christmas party this year, they are going to see me repeatedly over the years… and I plan on having a sleep over in their home once it’s completed. #ialwayshavesleepoversatclientshouses #itsnotweird

They have informed me that I am no longer allowed to refer to them as “my clients”… I now must refer to them as my friends. I’m here for it. If you haven’t seen this 3D rendering video of their soon to be home…it’s a must watch! Stay tuned for their big reveal this coming Spring.

So as you can see, it is really quite critical that we like each other. We want the experience with us to be fun, smooth and stress free and for you to want to keep us around. And of course, tell all your friends about us. But only the good ones.

Our favourite photographer is away for a few months but as soon as he’s back we’ll be getting him to come take some photos of our newly renovated #SCIDHeadquarters! You can read all about the things we learned here during our own renovation and why we may never act as a General Contractor again!

We also hosted an Open House Party in November to show our clients our new space and to celebrate the completion of the reno and it was so much fun! Sign up for our monthly newsletter if you want to be invited to the next one! It was such a good time, we want to do it again in 2023 and this time we may open it up to our followers and community friends so be sure to follow us on Instagram and sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop about that. Let us know you’re out there! Engagement on social media is the only thing that keeps us posting, so say hi, comment, like, share and direct message us to let us know you are enjoying what we’re doing. It will warm our hearts and get you on the list to our next party! *wink wink* We are also going to be hosting a fabulous giveaway in the next few months so you will want to keep watch for that one!

In October we made the cover of Cambria magazine! While it is an industry magazine, it is still a really big deal as a designer from the Prairies hasn’t been featured in a very long time! Our Cambria rep was over the moon to tell us and she sure made us feel extra special with her excitement! She made… I mean asked … a lot of Calgary vendors to pose with the mag for her Instagram feed and it truly thrilled us to no end.

We’ve been emailed from places in the United States asking us where we got certain products and I was sent photos from friends who were in Palm Desert and saw our project in the window of the Cambria store there! It was pretty great to see this project spread on the cover of a magazine, even if it was industry specific!

This same project was nominated as a 2022 Home of the Year Finalist by Western Living Magazine! It was such a great way to end the year and our team was darn proud of this accomplishment. You can read the back story about this project in the online article in WL or on our blog.

We’ve started this year full steam ahead and I have to tell you it makes me extremely happy! My brain tends to do better when we have a full roster of clients and lots of creativity in the works. But the goal this year is quality over quantity and to remain grateful even when things feel too slow for my liking.

Here’s to a great 2023! Thanks for following along and supporting us … we’d love to hear from you this year so don’t be shy!
