A Few of Kim’s Favourite Things

This month we’re highlighting our office manager Kim and all of her current favourites. Kim is a vital member of our team and oversees ordering, tracking and other important management of our projects. Her attention to detail is invaluable and she is a supportive, dedicated team member. Kim has collected a handful of things she has currently been loving from an amazing rhubarb gin, to her go to coffee order now that the weather is finally warming up, her favourite design elements and great restaurants around the city.

Kim has been talking about the Rhubarb Gin pictured above ever since she first tried it (available locally at the Kensington Wine Market). She has been making amazing cocktails and has promised to make some for the SCID team soon. At one of our last team gatherings, she made us pink and purple ombré gin cocktails and they did not disappoint so it’s safe to say we are looking forward to trying her latest find! The Stila One Step Correct Serum is a skin tone correcting and brightening product that she recently found -it works to even out the colouring of your skin and leaves it looking healthy and hydrated. Kim says the product is like magic and we’ll definitely be snagging one the next time we are at Sephora. As the weather finally starts to warm up, Kim has been enjoying Iced Lattes from Starbucks with extra ice because coffee is a staple around the SCID headquarters!

Kim’s taste in design is classic through and through and even though she constantly reminds us that design decisions are out of her wheel house, we disagree. She has been single handedly updating her main floor over the past few months and it looks amazing! When she sets her mind to something you can count on it being done efficiently and effectively and we love her for it. Pictured on the left above are some stunning black cabinets that Kim has her eye on. She always thought she would want a white kitchen when it came time to Reno but now she is leaning towards black after seeing it in one of our most recent projects! Next to black cabinets “herringbone anything” is an install patten she will never get tired of and we agree!

After she recently updated her mud room, she ordered a rug from Ruggable so that it would be durable, stain resistant and easy to clean. With Ruggbale you can throw the entire rug in the washing machine and they come out good as new. Quality is an important value at SCID so now that we know can stand by Ruggable, we will definitely be sourcing them in the future!

Orchard, Bridgette Bar and Ten Foot Henry are some of the restaurants Kim has frequented in the city. She has nothing but positive things to say about the menu, staff and ambiance of each location. We stopped into Orchard to celebrate Stephanie’s birthday last year and it is stunning. The combination of chandeliers and plants intricately hanging from the ceiling is so beautiful it’s almost distracting! Bridgette Bar is another must experience place as some of the seating is a departure from traditional and results in a unique dining experience. The Mash has their signature pickle and bacon pizza available for take-out or dine in and it sounds incredible. It’s a family favourite at Kim’s house and she has even started making it at home.

Quidi Vidi Pewter is a company local to Newfoundland where Kim is from. The small company is made up of a pair of artists that hand hammer pewter to reveal intricate images that you can see examples of above. The attention to detail is stunning and the end result is a uniquely textured piece of art with an amazing back story. Kim is proud of her Newfoundland heritage and hearing her stories in the office always brightens our day. We hope to be able to visit some time soon! Team trip anyone?

Kim, like Jennae, is also a big fan of the Inglewood area and some of her favourite shops to pop into are The Livery Shop and The Silk Road Spice Merchant. The Livery offers a collection of small local brands paired with larger more well known brands originating from all throughout Canada making for a quaint and well rounded shopping experience. From clothing to beauty brands and homeward they have an amazing selection. While some of us haven’t visited the spice merchant the character of the store front is incredibly inviting. They offer a quality selection of spices as well as, cocktail bitters and supplies. You can visit their website for amazing recipe ideas as well!

Lastly Kim has spent some time on Etsy recently while her living room has been under renovation. She ordered this beautiful real wood mantle that adds so much character to a space and the quality is top tier. She also snagged some brass hardware for some new cabinets she bought and it instantly adds a custom look to an otherwise common piece. We love sourcing hardware from Etsy as they have a wide variety of unique and high quality knobs and pulls. Jewelry is another thing that is great to buy off Etsy. This customizable bar necklace is the perfect gift.
