Coach Hill Condo
Cozy Grandma Chic. That’s what we were asked for.
We were also asked for tears upon entry. And the tears came… not the second they walked in the door, but after, when the adrenalin settled a bit and they really took in their newly updated home.
When our client moved into their condo, it was in a rush. They found it and bought it in a very quick time frame. Even after they moved in and got settled, the style was not really a reflection of their tastes. They were at a point in life where they could spend the money on themselves (after years of money going to kids and grandkids), and were excited to create a home that felt like it was designed just for them.
They were a dream to work with as they could easily describe what they were hoping to achieve, allowed us to direct them in design decisions, and were agreeable about what items would make the most impact in their space - even when it bumped their budget up slightly.
That item specifically was the fireplace surround. We are always conscious of budget, so we were doing our best to give them a more interesting TV wall while keeping the existing electric fireplace and surround. But in the end, we all felt it was an obvious compromise and not the feature it could have been, so the existing surround had to go!
The newly designed TV wall includes a lovely green floral wallpaper, new shelving to house both decor and audio components, and a custom designed concrete fireplace surround that really took it to the next level in updating the space.
You know how we feel about TV’s above the fireplace, but there just wasn’t another option here so it had to stay. However, we think the styling and decor on the shelves is enough to draw your eye away from the big black box on the wall and as your eye moves through the space, you really notice many other beautiful features aside from the TV.
And can we just talk about this dining room light fixture?!
Often clients will tell us that something they own currently must stay/they love it/it’s special to them, and so we do our best to incorporate it into the new design. And often times, we just can’t. No really, we do try. In this case, it was the existing light fixture above the table that they wanted to keep. Well… it had to go.
While we appreciated the fact that they’d owned this fixture for years and it had been with them in several homes, it was posing a problem for the new layout of the dining area. They’d asked for a larger dining table that could extend and the location of this fixture was bossing us around in the worst way.
The solution was a fixture that could have an offset jbox (keeping the existing junction box where it was due to a concrete ceiling that made it impossible to move locations). Enter this beauty of a light fixture! We were thrilled when they agreed to change out the old and install the new as we knew it would not only make the space more functional, it updated the look and brought the chic in Cozy Grandma Chic!
We are so happy our clients love their new look and it really is so cozy and chic. We don’t try to make you cry, but we gotta say we’re kinda thrilled when the happy tears flow because you’re so overwhelmed at the goodness and beauty in front of you.
Feeling inspired to transform your space? We’d love to work with you.
