Meet the SCID Team Series ... introducing Avery, our Jr. Interior Designer!

Our newest member of the SCID Squad is Avery Woods, our Jr. Interior Designer.

In addition to a short backstory on each of us, we each had to list some of our favourite things that we wanted to share as well our favourite thing about our SCID design process.

We hope you enjoy getting to know our team over the next few weeks and that you look forward to seeing more of each squad member on our Instagram feed!

Avery joined our team in October of 2023 so she’s technically a newbie… but it feels like she’s been here far longer. She fit right in and didn’t flinch when she was thrown into our busy schedule from day one.

She graduated from both Lethbridge College ( Diploma of Interior Design Technologies) and Mount Royal University (Bachelor of Interior Design) so I knew quickly after receiving her resumé that she was qualified for the job. Thankfully our personalities clicked as well and I was excited to have her join our team!

We often joke that we’re the same person as we are constantly showing up in near matching outfits, have a lot of the same “isms” and share a similar sense of humour!

She’s an avid reader, loves to travel and puts up with Stella’s incessant need for attention and back scratches. She shows up daily with a good attitude and positive outlook and she’s a valued member of our team!

Avery’s Favourite Things

  1. Favourite Place

  2. Favourite Meal

  3. Favourite Read

  4. Favourite Activity

In her own words…

  1. Favourite Place

I am a lover of all things Disney, especially Disney World – have been since I was a little girl! It is one of the only places I truly set aside reality and spend genuine quality time with the one’s I’m with (which is usually my family).

So many memories and laughs of mine have been created at Disney World. If you don’t hear from me in the next little while, I’m probably riding Tower of Terror for the 15th time that day.

2. Favourite Meal

Shrimp tacos!!! I have this meal more often than I will admit.  Tacos really are just one of those simple joys in life - not much can beat a good taco. I love having taco night at home while a Disney movie plays – most likely Pirates of the Caribbean. One of my favorite taco recipes is Fraiche Food Full Hearts shrimp taco recipe. If you’re looking for a delicious, addicting shrimp taco recipe, this is the one!

3. Favourite Read

I love to read and who doesn’t love a good book by the ocean? Such a relaxing experience - the sound of the waves, the warm breeze and a good read. I was recently in the Bahamas and I must say, the Caribbean Sea (though not technically an Ocean) was absolutely beautiful. My book genres of choice are typically romance, thriller, and the odd fantasy. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a great lighter read if you’re looking for a romance with a bit of mystery.

4. Favourite Activity

One of my favourite pastimes is a good Lego set! I realize I’m revealing how nerdy I am but seriously there is so much fun to be had building a Lego set. My boyfriend and I are both addicted so it’s one of our favourite things to do together. We tend to take our time because as satisfying as it is to complete one, it's always a little sad that it's over! Currently we are building Harry Potter’s Gringotts Bank but hopefully soon will be the Disney Castle.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE DESIGN PROCESS?

Of course, I love almost every aspect of design and all of our SCID steps like space planning and finding the most beautiful upholstery. But if I had to choose one favourite, it would have to be the final stages of the process when we are styling the client’s house.

I love combining our hard work and beautiful design with a clients’ cherished art and items. I find it very fulfilling to see our designs come to life - it’s always better than you imagine it will be!
