Our Year In Review - 2023
Happy New Year!
A brand new year always makes us feel all the feels. We reflect on the year behind us and discuss how we can improve going forward… as a member of your team and as a team of three, here in the office.
To be honest, I needed to review our 2023 instagram to remember the highs and lows of the year, in order to do a 2023 review. My initial thoughts were that it was uneventful… and then I remembered two pretty major milestones that occurred!
Turning 50 was a pretty big milestone so I’m not sure how I forgot about that one! My goal for that time last year was to feel good about myself - mentally, physically, spiritually. And you know what? I did! Leading up to that big birthday, I prioritized being active and getting stronger… and it really makes a huge difference in not only your physical state but your mental state as well.
Mindset was a big goal as well for me last year as I had a few months of being very anxious and down mentally. I tend to be very hard on myself when things aren’t going as I imagined and tackling my mindset that being busy equalled being successful was a hurdle I intended to get over. Plus my attitude as the leader here at SCID affects my team, so I didn’t want to bring my sometimes gloomy outlook into the office any longer!
That has actually never happened! While there has been slower phases, we’ve never actually had zero work come in. And that is in over twenty years of business!
Celebrating 20 years in business last March, was another big milestone of 2023. Which is crazy - because it just makes you feel like life is flying by. But it was also a cause for celebration, because as many of you know, successfully running a business and experiencing growth is major accomplishment. You can read all about my journey here! I’m not one to toot my own horn, but I will say I am humbly proud of having a successful design business and running a great team of women.
As far as a review of our work - we had our biggest big reveal ever in June of 2023! It came after a year and a half of working with a client on a large renovation and selecting every single item for their home (from finishes to fixtures to furniture). This feels like a significant project to mention because of the length of it but mostly because we had such an amazing relationship with this client (and still do)!
In fact, many of our projects are worth mentioning - big and small - because of the relationships built with our clients. If we manage to design beautiful homes but also form amazing connections with the people that own them, then we are truly succeeding. We adore the people we meet in our line of work and love that we get to be a part of their lives long after we wrap things up.
We also had some changes to our team this year and welcomed a new Jr. Designer - Avery Woods. If you work with us as a client or trade or if you get our monthly newsletter you would have been introduced to her last month. I’m sure her face will appear here professionally soon but be sure to follow our Instagram so you can meet her as well as see the things we’re up to!
